Love Spends Time

I am sure you have heard the expression I wouldn*t even give him/her the time of day! I have always had the notion that meant one wouldn*t even tell someone what time it is. It is certainly a statement of no love or respect for someone.

The Lord gives each of us 24 hours each day. I wonder how much time you give back to Him. I would like to challenge you to give more. I believe it was Martin Luther who said: I have so much to do today that I must pray at least four hours before I begin. I believe that we can measure our love for the Lord by how much time we give Him. I also believe that the more time we give Him the better will be the quality of the rest of our time.

Many believers give the Lord one-tenth of their resources. Time is a resource. May I suggest that you try to give Him one-tenth of your time. Make your own decision about whether to give Him one-tenth of the entire 24 hour day or deduct 8 hours for sleep and give Him one-tenth of 16 hours per day. If you do that you will serve the Lord either 1.6 hours per day (1 hour and 36 minutes) or 2.4 hours per day (2 hours and 24 minutes).

Ridiculous you say! You may be right. Here is another suggestion. If you presently give the Lord five minutes per day try 10. If you give Him 10 minutes a day try 15 and so on. (He deserves our 24/7 service.)

Psalms 113:3: From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD*S name is to be praised.

Then as objectively as you can, watch your life. Monitor your joy. Monitor your productivity. Monitor your efficiency. Monitor your relationship with Him. Monitor your income and expenses. Monitor everything that is important to you. Look for an increase in the blessing of God upon you.

I have discovered that my life is better if I spend at least 45 minutes with the Lord first thing in the morning. If I must go out in the morning I get up early enough so that I will have that time available for Him. Those are pretty good days. On days when I don*t have to go out I might spend 2 hours or more with the Lord. Those days are much better. The joy of the Lord bubbles into me and out of me more noticeably and maybe all day. Presently there are four days of the week when I also serve the Lord in structured situations later in the day. More joy! More bubbling! Often I get to return to Him again later in the day. More joy! More Bubbling! Forgive my silly little word bubbling. I cannot describe it better. I know that it never ever happened before I received Christ and happens less when I give less time to Him.

Psalms 34:8: O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

I have a hearty appetite for things that taste good. Fortunately I am only 10 to 15 pounds overweight. My time with the Lord tastes good. I want to be spiritually fat. The more you get of Him, the more satisfied you will be. And yet the more you get of Him the more you will want.
